Biosketch of Michael Barbour
Aquatic Biologist by occupation, Author by choice, Dr. Barbour writes novels based upon his travels around the world and with a character that rivals "Indiana Jones".

Dr. Michael T. Barbour is Director of the Center for Ecological Sciences for Tetra Tech, Inc., an internationally known environmental consulting firm. As Director, he supervises a staff of ecologists and toxicologists who provide technical support for assessing the water quality and ecological health of the Nation's waters. Dr. Barbour is internationally known for being the primary author of the USEPA's Rapid Bioassessment Protocols, which are used throughout the country for assessing the condition of streams and tributaries to large rivers. He travels throughout the US conducting workshops on biological assessments as an important tool for water quality morning programs. In 1997, he was given a professional recognition award from the Southeastern Water Pollution Biologists Association for appreciation for his technical contribution to the betterment of biological monitoring in the southeastern US. Dr. Barbour has published over forty scientific publications, including journal articles and book chapters, and more than a dozen government documents that address design strategies and approaches for the protection of the Nation's water resources.
Through his work at the National level, Dr. Barbour has become involved with international groups dealing with similar issues on ecological restoration and protection. His work with countries of the European Union has been rewarded with a special recognition from the Environment Agency of Great Britain in 1996. He has co-authored international scientific papers with colleagues from Austria, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, and Spain.
Dr. Barbour serves on PhD committees for aspiring student ecologists, namely at prestigious institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California at Berkeley and Khon Kaen University in Thailand. He serves on Panel Review Committees to judge the merit of scientific research for the US Environmental Protection Agency and the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Barbour has served actively on international scientific societies, presenting more than a hundred papers at conferences and symposia, both in the US and abroad. He has organized the scientific programs for these international society meetings and has served on numerous committees to advance scientific research in aquatic ecology.
